On June 10, 2023, the academic lectures of "Sugar Chemistry and New Drug Development" and "Development of Characteristic Resources with Homologous Origin of Medicine and Food" that our association docked were held in Hainan Vocational university of Science and Technology. Zhang Yongmin, an academician of the French National Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, a first level chief researcher of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and a doctoral supervisor of Sorbonne University (formerly Pierre and Marie Curie University), gave a lecture on "sugar chemistry and new drug development"; Professor Zhu Zhenyuan of Tianjin University of Science and Technology lectured on "the development of characteristic resources with the same origin of medicine and food". The lectures were hosted by Zhang Xiaoying, Vice President of Hainan Vocational university of Science and Technology, and Liu Chengyou, Vice President.
Academician Zhang Yongmin briefly introduced the development status of saccharides in the research of Medicinal chemistry from the aspects of the unique position of sugars, challenges faced by sugar chemistry, sugar and disease treatment, and focused on the chemical synthesis of biological macromolecules such as glycolipids and glycoproteins, as well as the latest achievements in the research of anti-tumor and tuberculosis vaccines. Academician Zhang Yongmin, starting from the forefront of the discipline, combined with his relevant research cases in recent years, focused on the research on the application of carbohydrate chemistry in the treatment of cancer and tuberculosis, and explained the new field of carbohydrate in drug research in simple terms.
Professor Zhu Zhenyuan explained the current status and trends of functional food development, representative research examples in the past three years, and research techniques for active polysaccharides. He said that biological resources and functional foods are mainly focused on studying the relationship between food and human health, with a focus on studying the health functions of food. They are mainly divided into the development of functional foods and the extraction, separation, purification, structural identification, safety and health function evaluation, and mechanism of action research of functional ingredients; Glycochemistry and Glycobiology research aims to solve the problem of sugar sources necessary for life process, focusing on the existing form, structure and function, Biotransformation, separation and purification, structural modification and functional enhancement of sugars in nature.
The academic lectures of "Sugar Chemistry and Development of New Drugs" and "Development of Characteristic Resources with Homologous Medicines and Foods" comprehensively presented the new fields of sugar chemistry research, classic cases of sugar synthesis chemistry in cancer and tuberculosis research, and representative research examples of biological resources and functional foods, sugar chemistry and Glycobiology research in the past three years, which are both profound and innovative, so that teachers and students attending the lectures have a good understanding of sugar chemistry in medicine The research on functional foods and other aspects has gained a clearer understanding, and participating teachers and students expressed great benefits.
After the lecture, Academician Zhang Yongmin and Professor Zhu Zhenyuan had in-depth discussions and exchanges with the attending teachers and students on issues related to the development and application of technological achievements, achievement transformation and social services, and the improvement of teachers and students' academic qualifications.
