Shanghai Jiaotong University is one of the universities with the longest history and reputation at home and abroad. It is a National Key Universities directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly built with Shanghai. After more than 120 years of unremitting efforts, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been built into a "comprehensive, innovative, and international" first-class and internationally renowned university in China.

Since the reform and opening up, the school has boldly promoted reform with the spirit of "daring to be the first in the world": it took the lead in forming a professor delegation to visit the United States, implementing internal management system reform, and accepting huge donations from overseas friends, which has effectively promoted the school's teaching and research reform. In 1984, Comrade Deng Xiaoping warmly received school leaders and representatives of teachers and students, and fully affirmed the various reforms of the school. With the strong support of the state and Shanghai City, the school has successively restored and built science, management, life, law and Humanities with the goal of "improving the level and creating the first-class" and the discipline construction as the leader. In 1999, Shanghai Agricultural University was merged; In 2005, it merged with Shanghai Second Medical University. At this point, the school has completed the disciplinary layout of a comprehensive university. In recent years, through the construction of the national "Project 985", "Project 211" and "double first-class projects", the university has gradually gathered high-level talents, rapidly improved its scientific research strength, and realized the transformation to a Research university. At the same time, the university has made important breakthroughs in implementing the internationalization strategy through cooperation with world-class universities such as the University of Michigan in the United States. The construction of the Minhang campus began in 1985, and after more than 30 years, a modern university campus with complete facilities and beautiful environment has been basically built, and the focus of education has shifted to the Minhang campus; The school currently has campuses such as Xuhui, Minhang, Huangpu, Changning, Pudong, Chongming, etc., covering a total area of over 3 million square meters. Through a series of reforms and construction, the school's various educational indicators have significantly increased, achieving leapfrog development and significantly enhancing its overall strength, laying a solid foundation for building a world-class university.
